Pell Grants and federal student loans are not on a funding hold but will be examined

Washington Students across were relieved on Tuesday when the U.S. Department of Education announced that Pell Grants and direct student loans will not be discontinued despite President Donald Trump’s widespread federal funding halt.

According to Reuters, government agencies were instructed in a memo released Monday by the White House Office of Management and Budget to “temporarily pause all activities related to obligation or disbursement of all federal financial assistance.”

The broad declaration caused a great deal of confusion and anxiety among government officials and regular citizens, who were rushing to understand the ramifications before federal agencies were set to block specific money on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
